An arts and culture group will transform a derelict north-east site with tribute to key workers.

A derelict site on Broad Street, Peterhead will soon be transformed following a successful commission by Artventure.

The project design will be fabricated and installed on hoardings on Broad Street/Rose Street within the town centre.

Local artist Kalina Zaton will create the visual display as a tribute for frontline service and key workers.

Artventure chairman William McNeil welcomed the project and said: “The Covid-19 pandemic has been a difficult and uncertain time for us all, however we know that our community members who work in health and in care homes, police, fire, shops and supermarkets, postal and delivery services and many others have gone above and beyond for our communities and we wanted to say thank you on behalf of local people across Buchan.”

As a result of interest the project has attracted, Artventure has set up the Acts of Kindness Facebook page where local competitions will be run as a nod to those who help their communities.

Nominations will be taken from the public and weekly prizes will be awarded, consisting of a certificate and hamper – funded by support from Peterhead Development Partnership, the Health and Social Care Partnership, Imagineering and Finnies 4×4 and the fire service.

Peterhead Fire Station commander Jim Logan said: “This project helps to keep our communities connected and gets everyone of all ages involved in something a little more lighthearted and fun.”
