Santa suits up for Macduff festive dive

Santa Claus is leaving no stone unturned, no chimney unclimbed – and now no rockpool unexplored – in his mission to spread festive cheer.

He may be snowed under with preparations for December 25, but Father Christmas will take time out of his busy winter schedule to stop at Macduff Marine Aquarium this weekend.

The fish in the main tank at the north-east underwater attraction will be given their presents early when he dons a very different kind of red suit for the daily underwater feeding sessions.

The aquarium’s kelp tank is becoming a traditional pit stop for the man in red and aquarium staff are grateful that he is returning once again to give the occupants their Christmas dinner.

Claire Matthews, aquarium manager said: “We can usually hear the bells on his sleigh before he arrives, then a quick change into his special Santa suit and he’s off swimming with the fish.”

Mr Claus will be taking to the water at 2pm on Saturday and Sunday. Visitors to the centre will also be treated to a whole host of festive activities, including the Twelve Days of Fishmas Trail and a Christmas cracker joke competition.

This weekend’s festive feast marks the end of a successful year at the aquarium.

The annual Shark Season fortnight in October drew record numbers to the Macduff attraction and the recent release of two adult conger eels into the Moray Firth was heralded as a conservation victory.
