The north-east is in line for a visitor boost thanks to an ambitious new project from the team behind the Energetica Corridor .

The Summer Festival, which runs until August, will include dolphin spotting, cycle runs, night photography classes and even a brewery tour.

Residents and visitors alike are being offered the chance to join in the mostly free activities, aimed at families and outdoor enthusiasts.

Previously known as the Energetica Walking and Wildlife Festival, this year’s season-long event will offer more than 110 hours of specially organised activities.

Energetica development manager, James Welsh, said: “Last year’s festival was very popular and we have built on that to make this year’s event even bigger and better and offer more activities which show just how much this area has to offer.

“The Energetica Summer Festival is a unique opportunity to discover the delights of the natural environment right on your doorstep. Under the guidance of our experts, people can discover how much there is to see, do and learn about this stunning area.”

Sarah Gosden, Aberdeenshire Council’s Buchan ranger, added: “The coastline from Aberdeen to Peterhead is rich in wildlife and offers some spectacular scenery. Some stretches are so special they have been recognised internationally as being important.

“We really are lucky to live, work and play here with such a variety of very special habitats and wildlife on our doorstep.”

The ranger service will be leading guided walks, rockpooling and cycling events during the festival.

Visitors will also be invited to take a guided tour of BrewDog’s Ellon brewery. The independent craft beer firm was launched in Fraserburgh before moving to the Formartine town.

The Energetica Programme aims to attract pioneering sustainable business projects to the so-called Energetica Corridor – a 30-mile stretch of coast from the Bridge of Don, Aberdeen, north to Peterhead.

The full programme of events is available from the Energetica website.
