Five people were arrested yesterday as the police broadcast their daily routine for the public to follow.

Officers from the north Aberdeenshire division took to Twitter and provided more than 3,000 followers with live updates on where they were and what they were doing on Friday.

The stunt included posting pictures of what those spending the weekend behind bars could look forward to in the shape of breakfast, lunch and dinner, and sharing advice to would-be weekend revellers.

On a more serious note, followers were also updated on foreign nationals being reported to the Home Office as part of Operation Nexus – a joint campaign involving Europol, Interpol and foreign police forces.

Chief Inspector Elaine Logue said the exercise was about showing the “human side” of law enforcement.

“This provides the public with an insight into the kind of calls we deal with on a day-to-day basis, and proved to be quite popular,” she added.

“It helps to show that we are human, and our style of tweeting is very successful.”

Other incidents included reports of suspected drug dealing, nuisance 999 calls and a “disturbance” at a licensed premises – all happening in Peterhead.

Near Longside, officers faced a drama of a more rural nature when they were called to deal with a calf which had wandered onto the road.
