Two men appeared in court yesterday charged with stealing electrical equipment from a north-east school during an alleged break-in.

Declyn Ledingham, 17, and William Thomson, 20, appeared from custody at Peterhead Sheriff Court.

Both denied breaking into St Andrew’s Primary School in Fraserburgh and stealing “a quantity of electronic items”.

The pair, whose address was given as 28 Clinton Place in Sandhaven, spoke only to confirm their names and pleas.

Both were bailed and are due to appear again in court in November.

Ledingham also denied a second charge of stealing a wallet and its contents from an address in West Shore Gardens, Fraserburgh, on April 2-3 this year.

St Andrews Primary School in the town’s Albert Street was raided last Wednesday.

The incident, which happened only yards from the town’s police headquarters, was branded “shameful” by community leaders.

It is understood a member of the public alerted police officers that intruders had struck.

Police said several thousand pounds worth of equipment was taken.

St Andrews is spread across two campuses in the town – in Albert Street opposite the town’s police station, and in nearby Charlotte Street.

More than 400 nursery and primary age pupils attend the two sites.
