Volunteers at a north-east country park are hoping to strike a chord with audiences with a series of classical, jazz and folk music concerts.
Aden Country Park near Mintlaw is already one of the most-visited tourist attractions in the region, and now the Friends of Aden group is working draw in new visitors.
The first concert in the series will take place on Sunday, June 5 from 4-6pm and will feature the renowned Aberdeen Sinfonietta String Quartet.
Last night Aberdeen Sinfonietta director Bruan Dargie said: “The opening concert will be given by a string quartet made up of four prominent members of Aberdeen Sinfonietta who are delighted to be involved in this new venture.
“They will play well known and popular quartets by Haydn, Mozart, and Dvorak. The concert will also feature two works by Scottish composers – a short piece by the 18th-century composer Thomas Erskine, 6th Earl of Kellie and a very colourful quartet movement by Sir John McEwan.”
In a second event, St Andrews University professor Richard Ingham will host a recital of two of his compositions – Pennan to Penang and The Book of Deer.
Prof Ingham is visiting the park on Sunday, June 19 and will work on the pieces with students before the 6pm performance.
Then in July an evening organised in conjunction with Aberdeen International Youth Festival will include a Czech woodwind group performing pieces by a variety of composers including Mozart.
A spokesman from Aden Country Park added: “The Music at Aden group is eager to introduce and make easily accessible to everyone live music of classical, jazz and folk forms to Mintlaw and its surrounding area.”
