Children celebrated World Book Day with a special reading from a local community champion.

Carolyn Taylor visited Fraserburgh’s Lochpots Primary School as part of the 20th annual World Book Day festival which celebrates authors, illustrators and books to encourage children to read.

Acting as the community liaison from the local Asda supermarket branch, she said: “World Book Day is getting bigger and better every year in Fraserburgh and it’s great to see a group of children engaged in reading at such a young age.

“Reading books and using the imagination is so important and by supporting World Book Day we want to encourage people to enjoy reading with their children.”

She added: “It’s a great excuse to dress up and help children develop their language and vocabulary skills, whilst of course having fun at the same time.”

The children of Lochpots Primary also took part in a crafting session, making cut-out ears of popular kids character Peppa Pig.

The supermarket chain is one of a number of organisations supporting the annual event by stocking the full range of World Book Day titles so children can redeem vouchers in store for the books.

This year’s chosen book list includes The Famous Five by Enid Blyton, Blob by David Walliams, Island by David Almond, Peppa Loves World Book Day by Cavan Scott and Everyone Loves Underpants by Claire Freedman.
