Fraserburgh’s lifeboat has arrived at its home port in time for a summer fundraising day.

The town’s Trent-class Willie and May Gall vessel had travelled to Girvan for repairs earlier this month and the volunteer crew used the MacQuarie as a relief boat.

But now Fraserburgh’s own craft, a stalwart of 15 years of service, has arrived back for the crew’s open day this weekend.

Coxswain Victor Sutherland said: “RNLB Willie and May Gall was built for us in 2002 and for the last 15 years we have been involved in numerous errands of mercy and saved many lives aboard her.

“With that legacy, that tradition and that association with our volunteers and the community we thought it important to have it here for our open day. So we pulled out all the stops to get her back on time.”

On Saturday, visitors to the Shore Street station will get a chance to tour the lifeboat as well as enjoying a barbecue laid on by the volunteers alongside stalls including hook-a-duck and face painting.

The open day will begin with a parade led by Fraserburgh’s Royal British Legion Pipe Band from the two centre. There will then be live music from local band Howling Gale.

Visitors to the station will have the chance to ask the crew about staying safe at sea and on the shore ahead of the summer holidays.

The event will run from 11am to 3.30pm at the Shore Street station. All welcome.
