Brothers appear in court accused of murdering north-east dad

A total of eight men have been charged in connection with Clampett's death.
A total of eight men have been charged in connection with Clampett's death.

Two brothers have appeared in court accused of murdering a north-east dad.

Barry Martin and Joseph Martin have been charged with killing Gary Clampett, and the attempted murder of two other people.

A third man, aged 45, was due to also appear at Peterhead Sheriff Court but was released before the case called.

Police have also charged a further three men following the incident – all of whom are due to appear in court today.

Three more men charged after Fraserburgh death

Mr Clampett died following an alleged fight at a house in Fraserburgh in the early hours of Sunday.

Police were called to the scene after neighbours on Fernie Place reported hearing shouts, screams and loud banging.

Paramedics also attended, but 39-year-old Mr Clampett died at the scene.

Yesterday, Barry Martin, 31, and Joseph Martin, 39, both from Fraserburgh made no plea or declaration during the private court hearing.

They were remanded in custody, and will return to court next week.

A spokesman for the Crown Office said the case against the third man remained live, but confirmed he had been released “pending further inquiries”.

Mr Clampett only got married last year to Sharon Graham, who is well-known in the Fraserburgh area. They recently welcomed a baby girl together.

Ms Graham’s son, Gordon, described him as a “legend” online.

He wrote: “I love and miss you to bits. You didn’t deserve what happened to you. You were the best guy I’ve met.

“You always protected me and had my back no matter what.

“I always had yours and I still will. I’ll always look after your baby daughter and your sons. You were a legend. There was nothing bad about you.”

Police have stepped up patrol around the town to reassure the Fraserburgh community, while also attempting to gain more information to piece together what happened on Sunday.

Detective Inspector Gary Winter, who is leading the case, thanked the public for their assistance so far.

He added: “Our inquiries are still ongoing and a strong police presence will remain in the area while these are carried out.

“I would urge anyone who has information they think could assist to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you would prefer to remain anonymous.”

The Graham family have a tragic history.

They moved to the north-east from Glenrothes in 1994, but just four years later dad Gordon was allegedly murdered in a flat fire.

Three years later, Ms Graham’s 18-year-old brother, Dean, was found dead in a flat in Fraserburgh.

And a year later, in 2002, her eldest brother, James, died aged 26 after a car crash near Rosehearty.
