High Street jewellers goes up for auction

A bidder could pick up a gem of a deal next month when a north-east jewellery shop goes under the hammer.

McDonald Stewart Jewellers closed down last year after celebrating more than a decade of business in Fraserburgh.

The shop, on the High Street in the coastal community, has now gone on the market complete with its upstairs flats as an investment opportunity for someone to take on and breathe new life into the town centre.

Auction House Scotland has put an estimate on the property of £40,000.

Included in the price is the shuttered shop facing onto the main thoroughfare and two floors of flats that are separated by their own entrances.

Auction House claimed the “attractive” price reflected the scale of the renovation which will be required for the property to be brought back into use.

Describing it as a “fantastic opportunity”, the firm stated: “The commercial unit consists of entrance vestibule, main sales area, workshop, storage room, kitchen and wash closet.

“The building requires internal renovations and is offered at an attractive guide price. The upper floors have their own separate entrance and were originally flats.”

It has also suggested that a buyer would be able to earn about £5,600 per annum by renting the property.

McDonald Stewart marked its 10th anniversary in Fraserburgh in 2014, when it sponsored a prize in the town’s Christmas celebrations.

A local youngster won a watch.

The property will be auctioned off on August 17 in Glasgow.

On the same day, a High Street four-bedroom flat – which hopes to achieve about £39,000 – will be sold.

The town’s former Buchanan House Care Home will also be auctioned off.

The property returns to the auction block for offers of about £250,000.

Locals have previously expressed concern about the massive home, which has 16 bedrooms and 10 parking spaces, being bought by a landlord who wants to convert it into a house in multiple occupation.
