A national theatre company will run a one-night only show in a north-east village next week.
The renowned National Theatre of Scotland (NTS) is taking its latest production, Rocket Post, to Portsoy’s Church Hall on Wednesday.
Ticket holders at the event will also be able to take part in a free workshop run by the company before the play itself.
Based on a true story, the production follows Gerhard Zucker and his attempts to reach the stars – and send the post – from the Western Isles in the 1930s.
German-born Zucker moved to the UK in 1934 and convinced Royal Mail bosses that the mail could be transported to and from the isles of Harris and Scarp through the power of his rockets.
Unfortunately, none of his attempts were successful and on both occasions he attempted to prove his theory the rockets exploded.
A spokeswoman for NTS said the play is “fantastically fun”.
“Rocket Post is full of humour, heart and hope for the future,” she added.
“A tale of miscommunication, vaulting ambition and the joyous discoveries that can happen when everything goes wrong.”
Rocket Post is being brought to the village by the North East Arts Touring Deveron (NEAT) group which promotes theatre, dance and film productions in rural communities across the north-east.
A spokeswoman for the group said: “As promoters for NEAT, we are really excited about this show.”
