VIDEO: Woman airlifted to hospital following serious north-east crash

A driver was airlifted to hospital yesterday with serious injuries after the vehicle she was travelling in collided with another car.

The woman, who has not been identified by police, is understood to have been travelling in a red Rover 25 which was involved in the crash with a grey VW Passat on the B9031 Sandhaven to Rosehearty road.

She had to be cut out of the car by fire crews and was then stretchered onto an air ambulance, which conveyed her to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

Yesterday, a spokeswoman for the police could not provide information on the occupants of both cars, but said the woman who had been taken to hospital had suffered “serious” injuries.

She added: “There has been a serious collision between Sandhaven and Rosehearty, and police are in attendance.

“It was reported at about 1.20pm. There is one female with serious injuries.”

The road was closed for several hours after the incident.

Two fire appliances were also sent from Fraserburgh, with tools, cutting equipment and stabilisation gear used to make the scene safe.

Another patient was treated by paramedics and is believed to have suffered minor injuries.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 13.20 hours to attend a road traffic collision on the B9031 near Sandhaven.

“We dispatched two ambulances and our helimed air ambulance.

“The first unit arrived on the scene within two minutes.

“One female patient was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary by helicopter.”

It is unknown how the vehicles came to crash into each other.

Nearby residents said they had not seen a collision take place.
