Woman appears in court in connection with alleged robbery involving a firearm

An Aberdeenshire woman has appeared in court in connection with an alleged assault and robbery involving a firearm.

Police were scrambled to Fraserburgh’s Gray Street on Sunday after a gun was reportedly fired in a flat.

The 44-year-old female was charged over the incident the following day.

At a private hearing at Peterhead Sheriff Court yesterday, she made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody.

She is expected to make a further appearance next week.

Police have meanwhile maintained a presence outside the property.

On Monday, officers said the gun going off caused damage to the home but did not wound anyone – although a man in his 40s was injured during the incident.

And yesterday, forensic teams could be seen removing bags of evidence from the flat.

Neighbours said they were “shocked” by the scenes.

Edyta Robinisek, 36, lives nearby and said she heard shouting which woke her dog up on Sunday morning.

She said: “I didn’t see anything, but I heard something.

“I was sleeping and I woke up and could hear people shouting out on the street.

“My dog was barking all the time.”

Another resident, Norman McLeod, said the neighbourhood is “mainly quiet” and that he heard a commotion outside.

He said: “I never heard anything until about 4am.

“My daughter did say to me she had heard from somebody that something had happened.

“The police came to me to Sunday and they were asking if I’d heard or seen anything.”

One man, who did not want to be named, added: “I didn’t see anything but one of my neighbours mentioned it and then I read it about in the Press and Journal.

“I’ve been here 30 years and there have been a lot of changes in that time and we don’t want this on our doorstep.”

Last night, Inspector Stewart Drummond said officers were treating the case as an “isolated incident”.

Renewing the force’s appeal for information, he added: “We have been and will be carrying out house-to-house inquiries today as our investigation progresses, and I would ask anyone with information to please let our officers know.

“Even if you think your information is insignificant and not worth passing on, I would ask that you let us make that judgment.

“I must stress that from the outset this has been treated as an isolated, contained incident that would have posed no threat to the wider public.

“Further searches may be carried out and you may notice an increased police presence in certain areas as we investigate a number of lines of inquiry.”

Anyone with information about the incident, or who saw anything unusual, is asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
