Five people needed medical treatment after a fire tore through a Fraserburgh farm building.

Crews were called to the blaze at Gowanfold Farm on Sunday night.

Four people were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and another person was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment.

It took more than an hour for crews to put out the blaze.

Fraserburgh and district councillor Charles Buchan said it was a “blessing” that nobody was seriously hurt.

He also praised the response of the emergency crews who were involved.

Mr Buchan said: “I am so pleased nobody has been hurt. It is a real blessing that is the case.

“The farmer may well be counting the cost of this incident.

“I would like to thank all the rescue services for all of their efforts and hard work in putting it out.

“Well done to the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.”

Mr Buchan’s fellow ward councillor Andy Kille added: “I am relieved no one was seriously injured.”

A fire service spokeswoman confirmed crews were involved.

She said the call came in to report the fire at 6.09pm.

She said: “There were three pumps in attendance and one jet and hose were in use.

“An ambulance was requested and a casualty required treatment for smoke inhalation.”

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “We received a call at 1838 hours on Sunday 20 May to attend a farm fire near Fraserburgh.

“We dispatched three ambulances and two special operations response teams to the scene and one patient was taken to the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.”
