A Fraserburgh pensioner who suffers from lung disease claims he has been forced to live in a damp-ridden house for a month – despite promises it would get fixed.
Kevin Baxter first alerted Aberdeenshire Council to the issue four weeks ago but claims barely any action has been taken despite a promise it would be resolved by last Wednesday.
The 68-year-old said workers turned up and made holes in the plasterboard, and confirmed there was a leak.
Since then, he has chased them up to resolve the problem but is still waiting.
Mr Baxter, who suffers from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), has had to sleep in his front room due to the problem.
He said: “I can’t believe how inept they’ve been, they turned up and took two holes out of the plasterboard and told me I had a leak. Then he went away and a few hours later the plasterer showed up and I had to tell him to go away.
“I phoned them up the other day to chase them up and they told me they still had to book the joiner, plasterer and painter.
“It’s just utter incompetence. I’ve been sleeping on my couch because I don’t have a bed in my back bedroom.
“I have COPD, damp like this is not good for my health, breathing in all those spores.
“I’m really angry with them and can’t believe how long it’s taken, I’m not going to get this sorted until next week now.”
The council has confirmed it will return to Mr Baxter’s house today to finish the work after realising the job was “bigger than expected”.
An Aberdeenshire Council spokesman said: “We will return on Monday morning and will conduct some additional checks to make sure the work addresses the issues at the property. We apologise for the slight delay and are discussing it directly with the tenant.”
