BROAD STREET FRASERBURGH CLOSED TO TRAFFIC WHILE POLICE AND AMBULANCE DEAL WITH A MEDICAL EMERGENCY. .

A man has died after taking ill in the centre of Fraserburgh.

Emergency services were called to Broad Street at about 9.50am yesterday following reports a man had collapsed.

Paramedics tended to him at the scene, but could not save him.

Last night, tributes were paid to the 27-year-old, named locally as local man Simon Whyte.

Police confirmed they had responded to a medical matter, and that there are no suspicious circumstances.

Local councillors described it as a “tragic event” and said their thoughts were with the man’s loved ones.

Councillor Charles Buchan, who was a science teacher at Fraserburgh Academy, said: “I’m very sad about this, he could be a possible past pupil of mine if he’s in his 20s.

“It’s a whole lifetime of potential living that has been lost.

“I feel very sorry for the people he left behind affected by his death.”

Brian Topping added: “Obviously I’m very saddened to hear about this apparent tragedy involving someone so young.

“My thoughts go out to the friends, family and loved ones of the individual at this emotional time.”

And fellow Fraserburgh representative Andy Kille said: “This is a tragic event for all concerned.

“It’s very early days in the investigation with agencies looking into what happened.

“My thoughts and with the man’s family and friends.”

Broad Street was closed between its junctions at High Street and Mid Street while emergency services worked. It reopened at about 1pm.

An ambulance spokesman said: “We received a call today at 9.38am to attend an incident on Broad Street in Fraserburgh.

“We dispatched two ambulances to the scene.”
