Fraserburgh Gala announces its return with headline rock act

Teams prepare to take part in an inflatable assault course at Fraserburgh Gala.

A popular north-east gala will return this year after announcing a stellar tribute band will headline the event.

Fraserburgh Gala, led by chairwoman Marie Wallace, returned in 2011 after a two-decade break.

It has run every year since then, and will mark its fifth anniversary with the rocking hits of superstar Jon Bon Jovi – or someone who looks very much like him.

Announcing their intention to hold family-friendly events in the port’s links, near the Leisure Centre, a spokeswoman for the gala said she was “delighted” to announce that Bon Giovi – the number one Bon Jovi tribute act – will perform at the event on June 25.

Ms Wallace said: “Bon Giovi are the world’s premier look-alike and sound-alike tribute to the New Jersey rockers.

“Bon Giovi are without compromise one of the best tribute acts on the circuit today.”

The UK-based band, fronted by Jovi impersonator Andrea Ojana, has toured extensively around the Middle East, Russia, Slovenia, Austria, Cyprus, Turkey, Greece, Holland, Germany, Belgium, Spain, France and Ireland.

The Broch’s gala will run from July 1 to 8.

An inflatable assault course and a picnic in the park event have already been confirmed.

Last year, the festivities got under way with a quiz night, followed by a sports day and a range of activities for children including sandcastle competitions and a disco.

The event is just one of a number of traditional galas which take place across the north-east.

Neighbouring villages Inverallochy and Cairnbulg have been hosting their own joint festival for the past 17 years.

It has already raised thousands of pounds for local causes and last year made a donation towards a memorial statue in Inverallochy, dedicated to the memory of fishermen who had died at sea.
