Fraserburgh community in shock after body discovered in home

An investigation has been launched after a man’s body was discovered at a north-east house.

Police were called to Westshore Gardens in Fraserburgh at about 10.25am on Saturday, and discovered the man.

They sealed off a semi-detached house, while a specialist forensic team combed the area, which is only yards away from a children’s playground.

Officers also carried out door-to-door inquiries at nearby homes.

Last night a police spokeswoman said the force are treating the death as “unexplained”.

She added: “An investigation to establish the full circumstances is ongoing.”

A police vehicle remained on the scene late yesterday afternoon.

The discovery of the man’s body in the quiet, residential area left many local families shaken.

Jurita Viksne, who moved to the neighbourhood from Latvia two years ago, said: “It’s quiet and friendly here, and kids play in the play park in the summer time.

“I finished work on Saturday morning and saw the police. Sadly we see the police a lot in Fraserburgh.”

Several other neighbours, who did not wish to be named, said the occupants of the property where the body was found “kept themselves to themselves”. However it is understood the man may have been a foreign national.

One local resident said: “I thought it was to do with the play park – it’s quite shocking because I’ve got two kids here.

“I’ve heard of it happening in the Broch, but never this close to home.”

And another added that the scene was “like something out of CSI”.

Westshore Gardens is an affordable housing scheme that was built six years ago at the cost of £15million.

The development replaced the former Marconi Road, an area so notorious for crime that it was known locally as “The Bronx”.

As part of the 58-home estate CCTV cameras were installed and the area has seen a major decrease in issues including assaults, disturbances and public drinking.
