A manager from a crisis-hit seafood factory has battled his way through one of the most gruelling obstacle courses to raise money for charity.
Des McMenamin was part of a north-east team which threw themselves into the Tough Mudder challenge at Drumlanrig Castle at the weekend to raise funds for Fraserburgh RNLI.
The event on Saturday in Dumfries and Galloway pitted competitors against a challenging outdoor obstacle course, which included ice pools, mud baths and electric shocks.
Mr McMenamin, who works at Young’s Seafood, Fraserburgh, had been training at a local gym for four months, alongside the six-strong No Limits team ahead of the event.
Last night he said: “I am delighted to have taken part in the Tough Mudder Challenge this year.
“The team has worked incredibly hard over recent months getting ready for the event and I am proud to have been part of it.
“Some of our colleagues have friends and relatives who are part of the Fraserburgh RNLI team and to be able to raise money for the fantastic organisation makes it even more worthwhile.”
Young’s Seafood chief executive, Pete Warded, said he was “incredibly proud” of Mr McMenamin and his team for taking part in the Tough Mudder Challenge.
He said: “I’m pleased that Young’s Seafood Limited is able to support the team’s efforts to raise money for the fantastic RNLI Fraserburgh, a cause very important to us all at Young’s.”
Over the past year the factory has been forced to cut hundreds of jobs at its Watermill Road plant in Fraserburgh following the loss of a major supermarket contract.
