A performing arts group which works to keep north-east youngsters out of trouble has announced its first programme of activities for 2017.

Modo is based in Peterhead and combines circus and theatre skills with “diversionary” activities to improve the life prospects of vulnerable youths across the region.

In order to accommodate the events the town’s Encounter Youth Cafe in Drummers Corner will be open to anybody under the age of 25 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 6-8pm.

The youth cafe runs a mixture of indoor and outdoor activities including pool, table football, circus skills, colouring-in and basketball.

Last night Modo’s creative director Martin Danziger said: “Last year was a huge success and the youth cafe in particular had hundreds through the door.

“Weather depending we get between 40 and 60 young people a night which shows the need for it in the town.

“It helps young people find something positive to do. It’s all better than having them hang around in Drummers Corner at night.”

Mr Danziger’s group will also run specific Circo Modo circus skills events every Thursday between 7-9pm at the Rescue Hall in Peterhead.

Young people aged between 10-25 will get the chance to learn how to juggle, spin plates, walk on stilts or tight wires and take part in a fire performance.

More information can be found on Modo’s Facebook page.
