A group of north-east volunteers, who have raised thousands of pounds for charity, have launched an appeal to carry on their good work.
Relay for Life Peterhead is mustering vital funds for Cancer Research UK by organising a 24-hour run through the port on July 1 and 2.
Their work, allied to that of other groups across the country, has helped double the survival rate of a cancer diagnosis during the last 40 years, with the Peterhead team contributing more than £1million to the cause.
But this year, to ensure the events can maintain their momentum, the group has invited all cancer survivors to take part in a lap of honour around Lord Catto Park.
A spokeswoman explained that the lap, which will open the relay, would provide “inspiration” to all the runners taking part.
She added: “They open the relay by doing the first lap and they are then treated to a lovely reception tea.
“We are sincerely thankful to these inspirational survivors for their participation in our event as they highlight the success of what we are fighting for.”

Peterhead’s Relay for Life is one of the most popular charity events in the north-east.
Last year, the town welcomed 31 teams, 53 survivors and 565 participants to the event.
Forty one carers also took part.
At the final tally, the relay raised £219,353.
