Land at South Ugie Village goes on the market for £2million – with planning consent for 110 homes

Sixteen acres of land earmarked for more than 100 homes has gone up for sale on the outskirts of a north-east port.

Shepherd Chartered Surveyors has this week advertised the massive site near the proposed South Ugie Village, Peterhead, for sale.

The land, which already has outline planning consent for 110 homes, is expected to fetch offers above £2million.

James Morrison, an associate for Shepherd, said his firm anticipated “keen interest” for the ground.

“This substantial site gives quick access to the local and national road network and to the town centre amenities,” he added.

“As such, we anticipate keen interest.”

Interested parties are being urged to contact the firm directly.

The South Ugie Village development is primed to create 1,000 new homes in the north-east.

The scheme was brought forward by developers Knight-Frank, whose vision for the site includes houses, businesses and space for a medical centre and primary school.

Councillors approved the development last year amid concerns from nearby landowners who feared that Knight-Frank were not communicating clearly enough with them.

Concerns had also been raised about how close the new homes would be situated to land already set aside by the local authority for other developments, and the impact they would have on neighbours.

Councillor Alan Gardiner had attempted to defer a decision being made on the proposal until a site visit could be carried out.

He warned colleagues that they could face a legal challenge if they were not thorough.

“I can’t see the logic at all of not having a site visit when we can sort these things now,” he said.

However, Buchan area committee chairman Stuart Pratt branded the idea of a site visit as “pointless” and used his casting vote to block Mr Gardiner’s motion.
