An award-winning Peterhead-born actor will be honoured this year by the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
Trainspotting star Peter Mullan is one of three “leading lights” it has chosen to be awarded honourary degrees to at its campus this July.
Mr Mullan, who will also become a doctor of film, has worked extensively across film, theatre and television.
He was born in Peterhead in 1959 before the family moved to Glasgow.
He went on to study at the University of Glasgow before transitioning from stage acting to the screen.
And today, his filmography includes Braveheart, Trainspotting, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and the television shows Ozark and Westworld.
Alongside Mr Mullan, Karen Cargill will become a doctor of music and Bonnie Greer will be given a doctorate in drama.
Ms Cargill is an internationally acclaimed mezzo-soprano, while Ms Greer has written plays, books and films.
Professor Jeffrey Sharkley, the conservatoire’s principal, said: “We are thrilled that Karen, Bonnie and Peter will join the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s class of 2018 to be honoured for their distinctive contributions to the arts internationally.
“Each has created a rich body of work which has entertained, engaged and, on occasion, provoked audiences across the globe – and we are incredibly proud to celebrate them and their achievements.
“Graduation is a highlight in our year and we very much look forward to sharing this special day of celebration with our honorary doctors, our graduands and their families and friends.
“It has been a pleasure and a privilege to watch our students grow as artists during their time with us and we wish them all the very best as they embark on this new and exciting chapter of their lives.”
The trio will be handed their awards on July 5, when 300 students will also graduate from the school.
