A group looking to improve sporting facilities in a north-east town has been given a boost after it secured £2,500 in funding.
Peterhead Area Community Trust (Pact) has been given a lift after receiving cash to carry out a feasibility study into the Barclay Park pavilion project.
The group has also secured charity status.
Pact hope to completely renovate the pavilion with the addition of showers and a public room.
Members are also hoping to build an all-weather football pitch, basketball court and pavilion at the former Victoria Road bowling green and tennis courts.
It is being led by Peterhead North and Rattray councillor Dianne Beagrie, although the role is separate from her job as an elected official.
She said work to transform the pavilion will mean Peterhead has a new community space.
Mrs Beagrie said: “Peterhead Area Community Trust is delighted to have achieved Scottish charitable status and we received a grant from the Peterhead Area Initiative grants.
“This will pay for a feasibility study into the renovation on Barclay Park pavilion, this is the first phase in the Pact project to improved sporting facilities in the town.
“The refurbished pavilion will have showers, toilets, a small kitchen, full disability access and will have an indoor community space.”
The Pact committee has won the support of the Feuars Managers for Peterhead for the project
Pact committee member Graeme Mackie said they want the pavilion to return to use as a community facility.
He said: “I am highly passionate about community facilities as I have been involved with Peterhead Boys Club and the Feuars Managers as well.
“The Barclay Park pavilion has been siting isolated for the last few years so we just want to bring it back as a sports facility.
“We are all driving towards the same purpose for Peterhead and the surrounding area.”
