North-east woman tells of assault by ‘wild animal’ husband

A woman attacked by her husband yesterday claimed she was pinned to a wall after she caught him sexting on his phone.

Nicola Greenhowe yesterday told Peterhead Sheriff Court Clint Greenhowe was like a “wild animal” when he assaulted her at their home earlier this year.

Giving evidence at the trial yesterday, she described finding a mobile phone and discovering a series of messages sent between her husband and another woman last December.

Mrs Greenhowe said: “He was sex texting another woman.

“I asked him what they were and I believed what he said. He said he was a voyeur.”

But she described the situation as escalating after she found a new text message and tried to speak to her husband about it.

The 52-year-old said: “He just looked like a wild animal.  He pinned me against the wall and he put his hands under my arms.

“I can’t remember much about what he said because it was like an animal groaning.

“I got to my phone and told the police my husband assaulted me.”

The court then heard a recording of the 999 call Mrs Greenhowe made and she explained to the call handler what had happened.

Greenhowe, of Whitehall Street, Dundee, could be heard shouting in the background.

The 45-year-old, a self-employed joiner, admitted a charge of assault and behaving in an abusive and threatening manner on March 30.

But he denied a further charge of assault alleged to have happened in December and his not guilty plea was accepted during the trial yesterday.

Defence agent Sheena Mair said the couple were back together and trying to “resolve” their problems.

She said: “There are trust issues and they wish to resolve those.  They have been happily married for 10 years.”

Sheriff Robert McDonald issued Greenhowe with a £750 fine and gave him two months to pay it.
