A deep sea diver poured beer over his partner’s head and tore the door from a fridge after she took their injured pet to the vet “without his “consent”.
Patrick Coyle, 50, also told Linda Buchan he would “break” her jaw, hurled a mirror and left food strewn across their home in Peterhead’s Bergen View during the incident.
The town’s sheriff court heard Coyle was heavily under the influence when he learnt their dog had undergone surgery for a leg injury.
He’d gone out for drinks after work and snapped when he returned home on June 22 this year to find the animal’s leg bandaged.
Depute Fiscal Ruairidh McAlister said: “Mr Coyle returned to the local area after working in Wick. He messaged his partner to say he was going to the pub.
“When he returned to their home he was intoxicated and threw a mirror through the door. He then opened a can of beer and poured it over her.
“He also told her ‘I can break your jaw in a minute’.
“The complainer’s son went to see what was going on and asked the accused to go away.
“He then saw that the fridge door had been ripped and the kitchen was covered in various foodstuffs.”
Defence agent Marianna Milligan said the reason for Coyle’s anger was that one of his pets had undergone surgery without his authority.
She said: “He accepts he had too much to drink.
“The dog had been due to get surgery, but he wanted to see the tests results before going ahead with any operation.
“The dog had been unwell and he could see its leg had been bandaged and treated without his consent.”
Coyle pled guilty to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner towards his partner.
Sheriff Robert McDonald deferred sentence upon him for six months for him to be of good behaviour.
He told Coyle: “It might be a one off but it is behaviour that is totally unacceptable.”
