Peterhead Scottish Week is in full swing and has so far been full of fun, cakes and exercise.
The traditional week-long celebration of the town kicked-off on Saturday with crowds despite the weather but Sunday’s Picnic in the Park event welcomed a record turnout.
More than 600 youngsters attended the event with their families and enjoyed the day in the sun.
Following that success, the organisers were keen to keep up the momentum with yesterday’s Great Buchan Bake Off and 3K Marinathon in Peterhead.
Held in Rescue Hall, this year’s baking theme was toffee cakes and everyone was free to interpret that as they fancied.
The winner, crowned Buchan’s Master Baker 2019, was Tracy McWhinnie. Fiona Carnegie came second and Derek Jones was third.
Scottish Week committee chairwoman Karen Day was delighted that so many people showed an interest in the baking.
She said: “Every year we see the most fabulous bakes – the cakes are some of the most amazing you’ve ever seen.
“There are no rules. The theme was toffee cake so they have to interpret that and determine what that should be.
“Because of that we see the most creative designs – I do believe the north-east has some of the best bakers.”
The event, sponsored by Ingrams Bakery, also involved a special cake demonstration by baker Christina Simpson.
After indulging in the sweet delights, locals and visitors then took part in the Scottish Week 3K Marinathon – a run, jog or walking event hosted by Peterhead Jog Scotland.
Last year there were around 400 participants on the route along the Lido path and back.
Leader Stephen Bruce was delighted the run was back for another year.
He said: “Every year the Marinathon is a great event and we almost hit our maximum of 400 people.
“I think this is our 12th year. The best part and the reason people enjoy it so much is that anyone can take part.
“We have little ones in their prams, families with little kids, up to grannies and grandads.
“Jog Scotland love this part of Peterhead Scottish Week as we love to show that anyone can be fit and healthy by getting some exercise outside.”
Everyone who took part in the 3K event was given a medal for participation.
