Plans for 20 new homes in a north-east village have been given the green light, despite complaints from nearby residents.
Some people living in St Fergus, on the outskirts of Peterhead, complained that ARD Properties’ proposals would affect safety and privacy levels.
The development was rejected by Aberdeenshire councillors on these grounds in January, but appeared before them again yesterday with a number of alterations.
Previously, some residents had complained that the height of the land earmarked for the houses would have allowed their new neighbours to look directly into their homes.
And more than a dozen objections had been lodged regarding issues including potential flooding and the impact of the development on nature in the area.
Many of those objectors said they were not opposed to the idea of new homes being added, but urged the developer to ensure the plans were “sympathetic” to the area.
In the revised plans, ARD Properties agreed to address the concerns by changing the landscaping and road layout and adding a drainage scheme.
And, in line with council planners’ updated recommendations, the proposals have now been approved by the Buchan area committee, paving the way for construction to begin.
Ground works have already been taking place at the site as the developer had been given permission by environmental health officers to ensure the area was safe.
The development will include several styles of detached and terraced houses and bungalows. The properties will have between two and four bedrooms each.
