Pupils are to return to Peterhead Central School on Monday

Pupils will be welcomed back to Peterhead Central School on Monday – more than a week after the positive coronavirus tests of staff members there scuppered back-to-school plans.

Classes were called-off at the eleventh hour on Wednesday, August 12, and the school closed for a an additional week as a precaution.

A provisional date for the return of classes was announced last week and now confirmed by NHS Grampian.

A spokeswoman for the health board said: “Following thorough investigation of the two cases linked to Peterhead Central Primary School, the incident management team is content for the school to re-open on Monday.

“We have worked closely with Aberdeenshire Council and are reassured that all measures are in place to support the safety of both pupils and staff.”

Primary two to seven pupils resumed at-home learning this week through the Google Classroom system used since schools in Scotland closed in March.

In a letter to parents yesterday, the school’s headteacher Paula Musson said she will be “pleased to welcome pupils back”.

She wrote: “Thank you for your patience during a challenging time and for finding alternative childcare arrangements at such short notice.

“We continue to follow the safety measures outlined in Aberdeenshire Council’s education and children’s services local delivery phasing plan, and our staff are also following national and council guidance to ensure everyone’s safety.”

An Aberdeenshire Council spokesman said: “We would like to thank the NHS and our partners for their support while the school was closed.

“We are also grateful for parents and carers for their patience and for stepping in to find alternative childcare arrangements at short notice.”
