Teenager gets three months detention for attacking police officers

A Peterhead teenager has been locked up for three months after she attacked two police officers as they tried to a question a man she was talking to.

Jennifer Cordiner had been with the unidentified male on August 3 this year in Back Street, Peterhead.

But when advised to stay back and not get involved by police officers, the 18-year-old lashed out and kicked both.

Yesterday Cordiner, who appeared from custody, admitted to both counts of assault.

Fiscal depute Katy Begg said the man she was with had been approached about an unrelated matter.

“She was told to not get involved and stay back,” she said.

“She kicked the complainer in charge one on his leg – she struggled and was restrained on the ground. The complainer in charge two was involved in lifting the accused back to a standing position.”

The other officer was also kicked in the leg.

Cordiner’s defence agent Iain Jane described the situation as “frustrating”, and said she had not been approached in relation to any crime by the officers before attacking them.

He added: “There’s only one realistic sentence the court can impose. It is obviously frustrating from my perspective.”

Sheriff Andrew Miller said detention was the only option he had to deal with Cordiner due to the nature of her attacks.

He added: “In relation to each of these charges, you are sentenced to three months detention.”
