A north-east man will cycle more than 100 miles to raise funds for a children’s cancer charity.
Darren Taylor, who has lived in Peterhead since he was seven, has challenged himself to get from Inverness back to his hometown in under six hours.
He will embark on his journey next month, supported by his brother and nine-year-old son who will follow by car.
The 43-year-old last night said he felt inspired to do what he could for cancer charities after his grandfather, Barry Wilson, battled the disease.
Last year, he completed a sponsored run for Cancer Research UK and now hopes local people will get behind him again to help raise his £3,000 target.
“I’ve been training for the past nine weeks – 50 miles a day,” he said.
“I’ve chosen Children with Cancer UK because, and what gets me most, of what families have to go through with cancer, having a little kid who gets diagnosed with it.
“I’ve never been so determined in all my life to succeed because of it.”
Mr Taylor, who will hit the road again with his bike in August to raise even more money towards battling cancer, estimates that he will have to travel at about 20mph to make it back home within six hours.
“It’s all about cancer,” he added.
“I have to help against cancer. There’s a lot of people trying to help, but the more people they have helping can’t hurt.
“I think we might never find a cure for cancer, but the funds will be there to help find it.”
He will leave Inverness at 5.30am on July 17.
