New directors are being sought to bolster a local development board working to improve Peterhead’s prospects.

Peterhead Projects Limited (PPL) is on the hunt for local experts from a wide range of backgrounds to benefit the town.

This includes local residents with retail experience, industrial or commercial knowledge, or simply those with the “best interests of the community at heart”.

Speaking at the group’s annual general meeting, PPL chairman John Brownlee recognised the issue of limited numbers.

“This year I feel even more confident about our position and our future,” Mr Brownlee said. “Of course we still have the problem of not having enough directors but I would like to thank our current directors for their ongoing interest in the company.”

Mr Brownlee, who also chairs the town’s community council, said a larger board of directors would allow PPL to develop new projects. He hopes to add at least four new directors this year.

“We currently have a board of six directors from a range of backgrounds who oversee PPL’s various projects which include 2ReUse Recycling, Peterhead Lido Caravan Park and the Buchan Meadows Community Woodland.”

Mr Brownlee added that the role is neither “onerous” nor “taxing”.

Owned and led by members of the community, PPL was founded in 2009 to develop community initiatives and continues to operate short and long-term enterprises in Peterhead.

The group is reliant on money raised from its own projects for financial self-sufficiency with all profits re-invested in the area.

Individual membership of PPL is open to anyone over the age of 16 living in the Peterhead area. There are more than 180 signed up members to date.

Corporate membership is also encouraged among businesses or organisations operating within Peterhead and District.
