Two deaths linked to Covid-19 recorded in north and north-east in past week, new figures show

There have been two deaths linked to Covid-19 recorded in the north and north-east in the past week, new figures show.

Data collected by the National Records of Scotland (NRS) show that up to July 12, 4,187 deaths have been registered across the country which mentioned the virus on the death certificate.

This is the eleventh weekly reduction in a row.

The first mention of coronavirus in death registration in Scotland was in the week beginning March 16.

Today’s update also shows 47% of Covid-19 deaths registered to date related to deaths in care homes, 46% were in hospitals and 7% of deaths were at home or non-institutional settings.

A regional breakdown of the figures show there has been one death linked to Covid-19 in the past week in the Grampian area. The total in the north-east is now 259.

There was also a death linked to the virus recorded in the north, taking the Highlands’ total to 115 since the pandemic began.

There have been no further deaths recorded in the islands that mention Covid-19.

So far, two people have died on Orkney and seven on Shetland after contracting the disease.

There have been no Covid-19-linked deaths recorded in the Western Isles.
