Following tonight’s Scottish leaders debate, Press and Journal Westminster Correspondent, Calum Ross, has had his say on the evening, scoring each leader’s performance out of 10.

As always, the debate sparked plenty of controversy and disagreement between the leaders, however, Calum was impressed with the performance of Liberal Democrats leader Willie Rennie.

Do you agree with Calum’s ratings? Have your say in our online poll.

Ruth Davidson

scot-con-6Was involved in heated exchanges with Jim Murphy over benefits cuts, accusing him of making up an “outright lie”. However, the Scottish Conservative leader blundered when referring to a constituency called “Inverness, Cromarty and Skye”, which does not exist.

Jim Murphy

scot-labour-7The Labour leader went on the offensive from the outset, speaking passionately on issues such as zero hours contracts and benefits cuts, but his tone might have been perceived to be too aggressive at times.

Willie Rennie

scot_libdem-8The Scottish Lib Dem leader enjoyed one of his better performances, challenging Nicola Sturgeon on whether Trident renewal would trigger another independence referendum. However, he was also put on the spot by Ruth Davidson over whether he would call on Lib Dems to tactically vote Tory or Labour to shut out the SNP in some seats.

Nicola Sturgeon

snp-7Had to contend with the other three joining forces to make life difficult for her over issues such as full fiscal autonomy and a second independence referendum. The SNP leader handled the pressure but was not as dominant as in other recent TV debates.
