UK politicians, who have spent the last few weeks on the campaign trail, have cast their vote in what is the most uncertain election for decades.

With the result too close to call it is anticipated that there will be no overall clear majority winner and a coalition government will have to be formed again.

There are more than 5,000 polling places in Scotland with schools, village halls and community centres transformed for the day to allow people to cast their votes.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon arrived at Broomhouse Community Hall in Baillieston to mark her ballot paper while Prime Minster David Cameron and his wife Samantha voted in Spelsbury.
