Traffic chaos on the M80 this morning
Traffic chaos on the M80 this morning

Storm Doris arrived in Scotland this morning as roads, schools and airports were hit by high winds and snow.

Schools in Aberdeenshire have both been partially closed due to poor weather with school bus routes across the north-east badly hit by snow. See bottom of this article for school by school detail on closures and disruption.

The A82 was blocked this morning by a fallen tree at Duck Bay, near Balloch – but it was cleared by around 8.10am, with traffic starting to flow again.

And the A9 was experienced heavy snow fall in the early hours of the morning leading to difficult driving conditions, particularly around Drumochter and the Slochd.

Snow gates on the B974 at Banchory remain closed.

Two flights from Aberdeen to Heathrow at 8.30am and 4.10pm have been cancelled as has the late afternoon flight to Amsterdam.

The 12.45pm flight to Heathrow and 1.45pm flight to Amsterdam from Inverness have been cancelled as well.

Northlink Ferries are currently all operating as normal.

But Calmac are experiencing problems on the west coast with some services to Brodick, Rothesay, Tiree, Coll and Colonsay cancelled or facing disruption.

The central belt has been particularly badly hit by the storm with reports of accidents on the M90 near Edinburgh and heavy traffic on the M8 and M80.

There are also high winds warning for the Erskine, Forth and Tay bridges, with drivers told to approach with care.
