A Navy seaman was today handed a three-year road ban after being caught five-and-a-half times the drink drive limit – the second time he has been found drink driving.
Leading hand Alain Waterston, who is based at Faslane, was found heavily under the influence behind the wheel of his Audi A6 car in Dundee’s Haddington Avenue on December 28.
He was stopped after a crash near his home address that damaged a garden fence.
Dundee Sheriff Court heard when breathalysed he had 121 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – more than five times the limit of 22.
The court was told Waterston had a previous conviction for drink driving from Dumbarton Sheriff Court.
Waterston, 41, of Haddington Avenue, Dundee, pleaded guilty to charges of drink driving and failing to stop and report an accident.
Defence solicitor Paul Parker Smith said: “He is in the Navy, his rank is leading hand which is equivalent to corporal.
“The present offence may hold him back from promotion in the future.”
Sheriff Alastair Carmichael imposed a fine of £640 and banned him from driving for three years.
