A drink-driver has admitted causing a head-on collision that caused the wheels to fall off another car.
Johan Van Der Wal was more than four times the legal limit as he drove south on the A816 Oban to Lochgilphead road on November 15.
The 32-year-old crashed into a Volvo S40 which was travelling north.
Van Der Wal was behind the wheel of his wife’s £20,000 Mercedes and rounding a blind bend on the opposite carriageway at the time of the collision.
He was later found to have 105 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of his breath. The legal limit is just 22mcg.
Van Der Wal, of Kilninver, appeared at Oban Sheriff Court today where he pleaded guilty to careless driving and drink-driving.
Fiscal depute David Glancy said the other driver involved in the collision, a man in his 50s, had been able to walk away from the crash without injury.
He said: “Both vehicles ended up about 30 metres (100ft) apart and the front wheels of the Volvo were taken off in the course of the impact.”
Solicitor Cameron Mckenna said his client’s memory of events was “vague”.
He added: “It was indicated by others he had been driving quite quickly in that area.”
Sheriff Patrick Hughes deferred sentence on Van Der Wal until next month to allow for the compilation of social work reports.
