The T in the Park festival is to move from Balado to Strathallan Castle estate

RSPB Scotland has said that T in the Park can go ahead at Strathallan Castle in Perthshire this July.

The wildlife charity is not opposed to the new venue but they do want strict measures to be put in place so conditions are observed.

In June, birds in the area are more likely to produce offspring and raise small chicks and the festival restrictions cover the use of fireworks, lighting and no go zones around osprey nests.

The charity has made it clear that at no point should any T in the Park festival goer or staff member enter these ‘no go’ zones.

Mr Stuart Housden, RSPB Scotland Director, said: “It is vital that impacts on wildlife are considered at the earliest possible stage when an event or new development is being planned.

“Today we have set out strict criteria which must be adhered to in order to minimise risk of disturbance to nesting ospreys.

“While we acknowledge that DF Concerts has gone some way towards reducing potential disturbance and increasing the chances of success for the birds, the level of risk requires strict conditions and the powers to enforce them.”

RSPB Scotland are urging the Perth and Kinross Council not to grant planning permission for the event unless these safeguard restrictions are put in place.
