Two people have died at the T in the Park festival in Perthshire
Two people have died at the T in the Park festival in Perthshire

Police have confirmed a man and woman who died at T in the Park are both 17-years-old.

Officers say the man was from the west of Scotland, while the woman was from the north of England.

The deaths are believed to be drug related.

News first broke earlier today before any acts had taken to the stage.

Police have said the deaths are not believed to be linked and next of kin have now been informed.

The Police Scotland Gold commander for the event, Chief Superintendent Angela McLaren said: “Our thoughts and condolences are with the families of the two young people involved.

“We are continuing to investigate these deaths and are following lines of enquiry, including the possibility that they may be drug related. I would remind all persons attending the festival that there is no safe way of taking drugs.

“Anyone who has any concerns for themselves or others at the festival should contact festival staff, police officers or medics for assistance.”

Last year a 36-year-old man was found dead in the toilets at the Strathallan Castle site in Auchterarder.

Meanwhile, police are also investigating an ATM theft from the main arena area.

The cash machine contains a significant amount of cash and was taken between midnight last night and 7am this morning.

Anyone with information should contact police 101.
