More schools have closed for the day across the Highlands after further heavy snow fell overnight.
A total of 118 schools and nurseries have already announced they are closing today because of the conditions and more are likely to follow as bus operators D&E Coaches they were suspending all of its school transport because of icy roads.
More than 12,000 pupils will be off school in the region today.
The A9 is down to one lane after a multiple vehicle accident near to Blackford, while further south there has been chaos in Dumfries and Galloway as hundreds of motorists were forced to spend the night in their cars after becoming stranded in heavy snow on the M74.

The north-east has again managed to avoid the worst of the conditions although snow has fallen in Peterhead and Fraserburgh.
The Met Office’s yellow warning for snow and ice is covering most of the Highlands and islands until 6pm tonight. A further warning for snow runs until 9am tomorrow.
