A severe weather warning for snow and ice has been extended until tomorrow night, the Met Office has announced.
Several Highland schools are still closed today because of the wintry conditions but the picture is looking brighter compared to the disruption of the past two days.
There are still 18 schools and nurseries closed in the region today but that is a significant drop compared to more than 150 that were closed yesterday, affecting more than 15,000 pupils.
The Met Office issued a new warning for snow and ice this morning which runs until 11.55pm tomorrow night.
The chief forecaster said snow showers will be heaviest and most frequent across parts of western Scotland, with potential disruption to power supplies from lightning strikes.
Further south, an amber weather warning for snow has ended although Police Scotland is still urging motorists to drive with “extreme caution” because of the conditions.

In Moray, Burghead Primary is closed today and tomorrow because of an outbreak of gastrointestinal illness.
