MSP calls for assurances roads damaged by AWPR HGVs will be repaired

A north-east MSP has urged transport chiefs to ensure repairs are carried out to vital roads which have been damaged by construction traffic.

Aberdeenshire East MSP Gillian Martin has raised concerns that the former A90, which will form part of the A92 Stonehaven to Dundee road, has been left in a state of disrepair by bypass vehicles.

The road will cease to be a trunk road once the AWPR is completed and will become Aberdeenshire Council’s responsibility.

Mrs Martin has now written to Transport Scotland to ask them for assurances the route will be repaired before it is handed over to the authority.

Her letter, to community liaison officer Andy Devine, stated: “During the construction of the AWPR, a number of constituents have advised me that the surfaces of these roads have deteriorated markedly.

“My constituents have enquired as to whether these surfaces will be repaired to an appropriate standard by Aberdeen Roads Limited before de-trunking.”

She said: “A recurring theme in conversations with constituents in recent weeks has been on the state of the trunk roads which will form part of the A92 following completion of the AWPR.

“They are simply not fit for purpose in their current state. I would like clarification that Aberdeen Roads Limited will be improving the quality of these roads before handing ownership to Aberdeenshire Council.

“This is a matter of urgency so that work is carried out to coincide with the AWPR.”
