Five weeks of maintenance will begin on a north-east bridge this weekend, less than a year after it received a £1 million upgrade.

Beginning on Sunday, traffic management will be in place at the A90 Cowie Bridge at Stonehaven to let road workers install £130,000 of safety barriers and parapet upgrades.

Single lane closures will be in place on the stretch from 7.30pm until 6.30am every week night, with all of the traffic management measures removed during the day.

It will not be shut on Saturdays or Sundays following the first weekend of the project.

Andy Thompson from Bear Scotland said: “These essential maintenance works will help ensure Cowie Bridge remains in a safe working condition for years to come.

“We’ve planned these works to minimise disruption as much as possible by scheduling the works to take place overnight and ensuring at least one lane on each side of the carriageway will remain open on the bridge during the project.

“We’re also avoiding working on Saturday on Sunday nights during the project with the exception of the first weekend when our teams will be working overnight to ensure the project can be completed in the shortest available timescale.”

Cowie Bridge was closed overnight for 12 weeks last summer to allow for a £1 million repair project.
