Drop-in sessions will update public on dualling of A96 between Huntly and Aberdeen

The Scottish Government has committed to dualling the A96 between Inverness and Aberdeen in its entirety.
The Scottish Government has committed to dualling the A96 between Inverness and Aberdeen in its entirety.

A series of drop-in sessions will update north-east communities on the dualling of the A96.

A range of proposals for a 26-mile section between Huntly and Aberdeen were detailed at an initial series of events in October.

Options have since been whittled down to a shortlist and it is hoped a preferred option will be identified by the end of the year.

Transport secretary Michael Matheson said: “The Scottish Government has given a clear commitment to dual the A96.

“This will result in the delivery of around 88 miles of upgraded road between Inverness and Aberdeen.

“It is a huge task, but one we are committed to delivering.

Cabinet Secretary Michael Matheson says the dualling of the A96 is “a huge task” but one the Scottish Government intends to deliver.

He added: “As part of that work, we are taking forward the design work for the stretch of the route between east of Huntly and Aberdeen.

“I would encourage anyone with an interest in this scheme to visit one of the drop-ins and give us their views.”

The drop-in events will be held at the Wyness Hall in Inverurie on Tuesday May 29 and Wednesday 29, at the Kinellar Community Hall on Thursday May 30 and the Gordon Arms Hotel in Huntly on Friday May 31.

All sessions run from noon until 7pm.
