A busy Speyside bridge is poised to be refurbished next week as part of a £150,000 project.

Engineers will begin work at the Bridge of Avon at the weekend to ensure it continues to operate.

Essential maintenance work will begin on the A95 Aviemore to Keith road near Ballindalloch on Sunday and is expected to take four weeks to complete.

Speyside Glenlivet councillor Louise Laing said: “It’s a very busy road. It’s the main road to get from Speyside and Elgin to the Central Belt, so it’s got a lot of traffic on it.

“It’s good that the work is being done overnight and no road closures are going to be needed as that will minimise the effect on the people who use it.”

The project being run by Bear Scotland will upgrade the existing parapets running along the edge of the crossing.

Temporary traffic lights will be put up from 7.30pm to 6.30am from Sunday, with traffic restricted to 40mph during the day.

However, the traffic lights will remain in place 24-hours during the later stages of the work while crews continue to work on the parapets.

Bear Scotland’s Andy Thompson said: “The traffic management that we have programmed is essential to ensure the safety of our work force as well as road users.

“We’ve taken steps to minimise disruption for motorists as much as possible, including carrying out phase one overnight.

“Our teams will also be working over the weekends to ensure the project can be completed in the shortest available timescale.”
