One of the highest parts of the A9 Inverness to Perth road is to be resurfaced.
To minimise disruption the £384,000 of work at Slochd Summit is being done overnight from 7pm to 6am, but as a convoy system is going to be put in place during the ten night contract, traffic disruption will be inevitable.
The works are being undertaken on behalf of Transport Scotland and are scheduled to commence on the evening Sunday July 13.
The resurfacing of the less than half-mile stretch will not be carried out over the middle weekend – overnight on the Friday and Saturday 18 and 19.
The convoy system will escort vehicles through the work site under a 10mph speed limit. During the day this traffic management will be removed, however, a 30mph speed restriction will be in place for the whole two week period to ensure vehicles can pass safely over the temporary surface.
Eddie Ross of Bear Scotland said: “These essential resurfacing works are necessary to improve the condition of this key strategic route prior to another winter. Due to its location and height above sea level, the road is subject to harsh weather conditions. This has led to areas of road surface deterioration. The resurfacing works are designed to improve the structural characteristics of the carriageway, prolonging the life of this section of the A9 and improving the driving surface.
“These works are being carried out through the night to minimise disruption to road users but we would encourage motorists to plan their journeys in advance, check the Traffic Scotland website for up to date information, and to allow extra time for travel.”
