Much of the north and north-east of Scotland awoke to snow this morning, with many of the region’s ski slopes on the brink of opening.
Towns and villages in inland Aberdeenshire – including Upper Deeside, Alford and Rothienorman- experienced snowfall late on Boxing Day.
However, the A939 Ballater to Tomintoul road remains closed from the Aberdeenshire side due to snow.
Police also warned of “hazardous conditions” on the A939 Ballater to Corgarff and the b976 Crathie to Gairnshiel roads last night.
A yellow warning for snow, sleet and rain was in place across the north-east and the Highlands and Islands until this morning.
Residents of Highland villages, including Aviemore, also woke up to snow today.
And the Lecht Ski Centre has hinted at a possible opening later on today, whilst the staff at Cairngorm Mountain say they may open in the next few days.
A post to the Lecht’s social media page stated: “Some fresh snow and we are currently assessing the hill to see if we will be able to open any of the lifts, either today or for tomorrow.
“Roads: the road from the Tomintoul side is open, Aberdeenshire still remains closed but the tractor plough is working on it.”
A social media post by Cairngorm Mountain asked skiers and snowboarders to “stay tuned”.
It adds: “It is looking a lot better now at the top of the mountain and we will spend today looking at our options.
“It is looking very windy for Monday at the moment so we will update this afternoon when the latest forecasts are in.”
