Thrill-seekers were left stranded for over an hour after they became stuck on the controversial Smiler rollercoaster at Alton Towers theme park.
Dozens of visitors were left stuck on the £18 million ride – just five months after it reopened following the horrific crash which injured 16 people.
The Staffordshire theme park said they stopped the ride to investigate claims debris was on the track leaving one carriage hanging vertically as it climbed up a large drop.
Rescue teams from the attraction were working to safely free the trapped adrenaline junkies from the rollercoaster.
Eyewitness Liam Dennett, 33, from Cheltenham, Glos., was visiting the theme park his wife and 14-year-old son.
He said: “We were about to go on it and then somebody came over the tannoy saying that there had been technical problems with the ride.
