VIDEO: Investigation launched after teenage boy found dead after shed fire

Flowers have been left at the scene where the body of a 13-year-old boy was found dead following a blaze in a shed.

The body of the child, named locally as Jack Sheldon, was discovered by fire crews at a property in Byron Avenue, Campsall, South Yorkshire, on Thursday evening.

A cordon has been put up at the scene with flowers laid outside the house.

Tributes included “We are all thinking of you, there are no words that can be spoken” and “Thinking of you at this sad time, you will be missed”.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue service said crews were called to the blaze at around 8.30pm.

Police said after the flames had been extinguished a body was found, which they believed to be that of a teenage boy.

A joint investigation between the police and fire service is under way following the incident in the village, which is about seven miles (11km) from Doncaster.

Formal identification of the body has yet to take place.

Former Labour leader and current MP for Doncaster North Ed Miliband tweeted: “Very saddened by the news from Campsall about the death of a young boy. All my thoughts with his family.”

Simon Dunker, from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue service, said the investigation into the blaze was in its early days but would “cover every avenue”.

He said: “On arrival we found a shed well alight and proceeded to extinguish the fire. At that time is when we discovered there had been a fatality within the shed.

“(The investigation) is a slow process.

“South Yorkshire Police are working extremely closely with the family, we would like to express our condolences to the family at this tragic event.”
